Summer Rituals For A Lighter Body

Heat, humidity and travel ask more of the body than we admit. Five seasonal practices to stay clear, cool and circulating.

Summer Rituals For A Lighter Body

Summer is the season we romanticize and underestimate. The light is longer, the calendar is fuller, and the body is quietly doing extra work — regulating temperature, replacing the water we lose, processing the wine, the sun, the late nights, the time zones.

By July most clients arrive in the studio puffy, dehydrated and a little wired. Not unwell — just over-asked. These are the five rituals I keep returning to.

1. Front-load water and minerals. Plain water alone isn't hydration in summer. Add a pinch of unrefined salt and a squeeze of citrus to the first glass of the day. Repeat before sun exposure and after.

2. Move the lymph in the morning. Two minutes of dry brushing toward the heart before you shower, or a slow self-massage along the neck and collarbones. It sets the drainage tone for the entire day.

3. Cool the feet, not the core. A cold rinse of the feet and wrists drops core temperature faster than an iced drink, without shocking digestion.

4. Protect the nervous system from the calendar. Summer social load is real. Block one quiet evening a week and treat it like an appointment. The body cannot integrate joy it never gets to rest into.

5. Book the bodywork before you need it. A lymphatic or integrative session every three to four weeks across summer keeps inflammation, jet lag and sun fatigue from compounding into autumn.

Treat the season like the athletic event it actually is. Your body will thank you in September.
